My dreams and aspirations finally materialized in October 1998 when my spouse and I established Sunshine L earning Center Inc. Having been raised by parents whose emphasis was on education, I learned to read at the early age of four and thus was my vision : “ To have an exemplary preschool in the community of St Albans, Queens, NY” Providing students with a safe, healthy and nurturing environment is of paramount importance – “A home away from home.” With the understanding that children live what they learn my priority was to ensure that the children were engaged in meaningful developmentally and culturally appropriate activities on a daily basis. The basis for these creative hands on activities is built on the educational philosophies of: Vygotsky, his works on play as the vehicle for learning, Erickson’s Stages of development and Piaget’s cognitive development. I also strongly believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and by collaborating with our families, community organizations, New York City Department of Education, and our supportive staff members have empowered us to achieve our many goals. I am truly elated when our students confidently exit our doors , and are socially, emotionally and educationally prepared to succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.

I have always had a desire to reach out and give back to my community through assisting Pre – School student s by ensuring that they have all the technological tools and resources needed to explore and develop their inquisitive minds in a nurturing environment. I along with the Sunshine Learning Center Team are on the quest to shape our young preschooler’s minds to be the leaders of tomorrow. It takes a big heart to shape small minds! Together we can succeed!

With over 26 years’ experience as an educator, 15 years of which has been dedicated to this noble institution thus far have been a rewarding, cherished and fulfilling one. My passion for teaching goes beyond educating, nurturing, facilitating and developing skills that children possess. The collaboration of working with the staff along the preschool journey has afforded me to nurture children into respectful, caring, confident and joyful learners. I always make this Chinese proverb my daily guide, ”A child’s life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark.” As an early childhood educator, I am mindful that our preschoolers come to us as “blank slates , ” the minds are just beginning to develop, and whatever is d one now is etched on the child’ s mind for life. Children remember everything you do. They may remember everything they see, t hough not in detail, they will ALWAYS REMEMBER. It is on this premise that my team and I strive to ensure lasting memories and experiences are created daily for our preschoolers who have graced our doors to have them become independent thinkers and lifelong learners.
